Pancake Squirrel
The most concealable of the outside the belt holsters. Pancake holsters are constructed of two pieces of leather sewn together with belt slots fore and aft. At Secret Squirrel Leather the front part of the holster is formed into a gun pocket where most of the detail molding is done and the rear is more flat and curved slightly to fit the hip. This 2/3 front and1/3 rear construction method allows for an extremely comfortable holster which conceals well because of it contoured design. This holster also does not have a tendency to tighten precipitously as the belt is cinched down. This holster can be more concealable than an Inside the Waistband holster (IWB) as long as the covering garment is long enough to not ride up exposing the barrel/slide area. This is possible because the holster is only two layers of leather rather than the six required of the average IWB holster. In an IWB holster there is the holster pocket, mouth reinforcement, and attachment straps which increases the thickness of the holster, although this can be mitigated using thinner layers of leather. The fact that the thicker part of the holster is above the belt also aids in concealment. This is not to say that an IWB is not a fine and concealable choice, I provide this insight for people like myself who do not want to put a large gun inside their waistband and are much more comfortable with the gun on the outside. You do not have to use an IWB to have a reasonable level of concealment. At Secret Squirrel Leather this model is called a "Pancake Squirrel."
